TPP/MAT

Both artmaking and teaching require dedication, perseverance, and a keen personal vision. At MassArt, teachers-in-training learn alongside aspiring artists.

Teacher Preparation Program

The teacher preparation program is intended for students who have strong undergraduate backgrounds in studio art and who seek initial licensure as art teachers.

Master of Arts in Teaching / Art Education

This program provides artists with substantive, graduate-level education in teaching. Students learn the art of teaching in an exciting, thriving art and education community that keeps studio practices at the core of becoming a great teacher.

Work with local experts, national leaders, and international artists in the Art Education department to develop your teaching potential. The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) / Art Education (AE) is a 36-credit program leading to the Initial Teacher License in Massachusetts while also providing the coursework requirements for Professional Teacher Licensure. The program is designed for students with very strong backgrounds in studio work who want to teach in schools, museums, social service agencies, or other educational settings.
