Internship Available at Massachusetts Cultural Council - Winter/Spring 2007
"A Broad Perspective on the Arts" Internship
This intern will work with several departments at the MCC on a variety of projects for an opportunity to gain a broad perspective on arts and cultural issues throughout the state. This internship takes place between January and April 2007 for a total of 80 hours.
The intern will work in the following areas:
Cultural Organizations
The Organizational Support (OS) program provides grants and services to cultural organizations throughout Massachusetts. It is the largest MCC grant program, providing awards ranging from $1,500 to $45,000 to 500 organizations. The intern will work hands-on with the grant applications and the panel process for dance, music and visual arts organizations. Throughout this process the intern will gain exposure to a variety of cultural organizations, become aware of the issues involved in nonprofit arts management, and learn what makes a good grant application. (25 hours)
The intern will also work with the Cultural Facilities Fund (CFF) to identify foundations and other arts councils across the nation who are engaging in similar grantmaking. The goal of the CFF is to increase investments from both the public and private sector to support the sound planning and development of cultural facilities in Massachusetts. The Fund will provide $13 million dollars in Capital Grants and Feasibility and Technical Assistance Grants to promote the acquisition, design, repair, rehabilitation renovation, expansion, or construction of nonprofit cultural facilities in Massachusetts. Arts Education
The MCC’s Education Programs seeks to embed the arts deeply in the educational experience, both in and out of school, of every child in the Commonwealth. We pursue this mission through grants, technical assistance, collaborations special projects and advocacy. The intern will be involved in preparing material and conducting research for the first Explorations in Puerto Rican Culture in-service and project and update a workforce skills bibliography. (15 hours)
Artist Spaces
ArtistLink is a new collaborative effort to create a stable yet dynamic environment for Massachusetts artists. ArtistLink achieves this mission by taking a leadership role on artist space by providing individual artists, developers, and municipalities with targeted information and technical assistance and by advocating for relevant policy changes at the state level. The intern will work with the director on a number of administrative tasks. (15 hours)
Qualifications: A junior, senior or graduate level student, with some familiarity in the field of arts administration or nonprofit management. Must have familiarity with spreadsheets, databases, and the internet.
