Healey: Wrapping up your sites!
Today is the last day to work on your individual websites. I hope you have all learned something about basic HTML and the steps that go into creating a personal page for the web. You should all have an active index page (a homepage) in your folder on the shared server that can be linked together. We also have a few pictures we should organize on a club page.
Everyone should understand the following:
Using the Internet safely.
How to protect your identity and not get hurt on the web.
How to keep from downloading spyware and other viruses from websites.
How to search smartly and safely.
Understanding Webpages
What is a browser?
What is a URL?
What is HTML?
How do you use HTML to make a link to a webpage?
How do you use HTML to make a link to an image?
How do you copy and save images from the Internet?
What is a server?
How can you use MSPaint to prepare images for the web?
How do you add sound to a webpage?
How do you make links between pages or to other websites?
How to plan multi-page websites.
How to use and export websites from Publisher.
How to tell a story with words and pictures.
"Fair Use" of Web Resources
What is copyright?
Who owns the pictures and songs you find on the web?
How can you use them fairly?

Finish Your Websites - Healy
You should finish your website and export it as HTML so it can be added to the Club final project. Please include a short paragraph about the clubs you took and what you learned.
We will also be creating the Club gallery pages today.
Please be respectful of your peers, the computer lab and the goals of this club. Fighting, eating, harrassing each other and playing loud games or music will not be tolerated. IMing and watching videos is not allowed.

Group Website Project - Healy
There is a teacher-training class in the computer lab during May. That means we will have to meet in the library for at least some part of the next few sessions. When possible, we will move to the lab when it becomes available. I will go over the "library rules" with you, but you probably already know them. Lets make sure we don't give anyone any reason to stop letting us have computer clubs here at Healy.
Last week we discussed making a site celebrating the 21st Century Clubs at Healy and some of you signed up for different "development teams."
This week's teams:
Web Designers:
Zack and Kathia
Work together. Decide who will do what.
Publisher will only open one document at a time but you can work on separate parts of the site and we'll merge them later.
- Using Publisher, create a template for the 21st Century Clubs site.
- Choose a blank page.
- Decide how wide you want the page to be: File > Page Setup
- Add Navigation and other page elements: Insert > Design Gallery Objects. We will need a home page, story pages (for text about the different clubs) and gallery pages (for pictures).
Photographers:
Angie and Lovette
- Take pictures of today's clubs (Ask Allison for the camera)
- Copy them to the Save Work Here > Somerville 21 Web Club > Healy > Final Project folder(I can help you with this).
Logo and Header Designers:
Everyone in the club should try making headlines and graphics today (for the club site, or their own pages if you haven't tried it yet). I will see if I can get a list of all the clubs from Allison.
Try using:
- Use Word Art (look for the WA icon), which is built into Publisher
- CoolText Logo Generator
- 3dText Maker
- Save your logos in the Final Project folder, or your own folder.
- Look in the Clip Art folder (in Publisher) to find art to use
You can also go to clip art sites (follow links from our links page).
Do not use images from a Google search for this.

Healy School Web Club: Showing Off Your Stuff!
This week you will have an opportunity to show each other your websites, so far. Don't worry, this is just an opportunity to get some feedback from your classmates and me. No one is expected to be "finished." Show what you've done, your hand-coded websites, illustrations, planning maps, and/or your Publisher site in progress.
Schedule:
4:00-4:30 -- Work on your site and get ready to preview it in Explorer from the computer you are using.
4:30-5:15 -- Show your sites!
5:15-5:30 -- Feedback from Me.
